Without a virtualization layer there is no overhead (5–15% depending on load). The hardware is used 1:1.

Any operating system, free choice of kernel parameters, no restrictions imposed by a hypervisor.
Better security
You share neither CPU cores nor RAM or kernel structures with third parties. Hypervisor risks such as escape exploits or side-channel attacks (Spectre/Meltdown variants) do not apply — a relevant point for compliance-sensitive environments.
Better scaling
Under heavy load or with large data volumes, bare metal is cheaper and faster than a VPS cluster.
